Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts based upon the understanding that good health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system (especially the spine, and the nerves extending from the spine to all parts of the body). It started in America in 1895. "Chiropractic" comes from the Greek word chiropraktikos, meaning "effective treatment by hand." Chiropractic stresses the idea that the cause of many disease processes begins with the body's inability to adapt to its environment. It looks to address these diseases not by the use of drugs and chemicals, but by locating and adjusting a musculoskeletal area of the body which is functioning improperly.
In 1903 Thomas Edison was concerned about the healthcare of his time and stated: “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
His statement epitomizes Chiropractic. The doctor of the future is already here in Chiropractic!
A chiropractic adjustment is the art of using a specific force with the hands in a precise direction, applied to a joint that is fixated, "locked up", or not moving properly. This adds motion to the joint, helping the surrounding structures to gradually return to a normal motion and position. The purpose of this natural procedure is improved spinal function, improved nervous system function and improved health.
Most of the spinal pain with muscle spasm are caused by the spinal joint hypomobility, which means less than optimal range of motion. Chiropractic adjustment is the most effective treatment method to restore normal range of motion to the hypomobile joints. Once normal range of motion is returned, muscle spasm and pain will go away.
Muscle relaxers and pain medication may reduce pain temporarily but they never address the root cause of the joint hypomobility. Joint hypomobility is often referred as "joint subluxation" in the Chiropractic community.
Chiropractors refuse to put anything into the body or take anything out of it. This, along with the fact that they don't treat individual "hurts" but rather treat the body as a whole makes their approach holistic and natural.
Chiropractic works by restoring your own inborn(innate) ability to be healthy. The chiropractic approach to better health is to locate and help remove interferences to your natural state of being healthy. A common interference to the nervous system is the spinal bones. A loss of normal motion or position of these bones can irritate or impair the function of the nervous system. With improved spinal function, there is often improved nervous system function.
Your spine-made up of 24 bony segments called vertebrae-is the main support of your body. A healthy spine keeps the body erect and protects one of your body's most vital parts: your spinal cord. Billions of nerves leave the spinal cord through small openings between the vertebrae. These nerves carry energy to every part of your body.
The first thing we will do is ask you about the health complaints about which you are chiefly concerned. We will also ask about your family history, dietary habits, other care you may have had (chiropractic, osteopathic, medical, etc.), your job, and other questions designed to help determine the nature of your illness and the best way to go about treating the problem.
A physical examination will be performed in accordance with our clinical judgement, which may include x-rays, laboratory analysis and other diagnostic procedures. In addition, a careful spinal examination and analysis will be performed to detect any structural abnormalities which may be affecting or causing your condition.
All of these elements are important components of your total health profile, and vital to us in evaluating your problem.

A subluxation, or more precisely, the Vertebral Subluxation Complex, describes what happens when spinal bones lose their normal position and motion from stress, accidents or chemical imbalances. The Vertebral Subluxation Complex is the underlying cause of many health care problems. The VSC can affect your motion, nerves, muscles, tissue change and finally pathological sturctural changes such as degenerative joint diseases.
They are easily detected during physical examination in our office as the joints lacking normal range of motion. Chropractic adjustments are administered to those hypomobile joints to restore mobility and correct a subluxation.
Anything that "hurts" the body or irritates the spine can cause the bony segments of the spine to become immobile and irritate nerves. Birth, auto accidents, awkward movements, injuries at work, playing sports, and even sitting can cause subluxations.

Although we do not use drugs, we recognize that in some cases drugs are necessary. In those instances, we are glad to refer you to a competent medical physician. Also if we find medical conditions during the physical examination, you will be referred to a medical physician as needed.
In the words of the New Zealand government's inquiry, chiropractic care is "remarkably safe." Chiropractic has an excellent safety record. It is the result of a conservative approach to health that avoids invasive procedures or addictive drugs. Chiropractic care with our thorough examination procedure is a natural approach to better health that is proven safe and effective.
Safety of our patients are the most important thing. It is amazing most of the negativity against Chiropractic safety is coming from people who have never experienced Chiropractic. We understand what their agenda is now but that keeps us with more desire to help people without chemical drug intervention.
We believe that the best natural sources of vitamins and minerals are found in whole foods. Instead of chemically processed commercial products containing high concentrations of only a few nutrients, food supplements uniquely processed to preserve the maximum nutrients of the whole food are called whole food supplements and recommended in our office.
However we understand that there may be conditions where you may need stronger dosages of vitamins and they will be recommended to you instead.
